Skinny Client Control Protocol (SCCP)

A Cisco proprietary stimulus protocol (TCP 2000, 2443 secure) used by older Cisco phones and by media resources to talk to CUCM.

Definition

SCCP, or Skinny, sends every key press and display update between the phone and CUCM, which controls all call logic. It is lightweight and feature-rich for Cisco endpoints but proprietary. Newer phones use SIP, while IOS media resources such as conference bridges, transcoders and MTPs still register to CUCM using SCCP.

Example

sccp ccm 10.1.1.10 identifier 1 version 7.0 registers an IOS DSP farm to CUCM.

Exam tip

SCCP is still the registration protocol for IOS-based media resources even in SIP-only phone deployments.
