Conference Bridge

A media resource that mixes audio, and sometimes video, from three or more participants into one conference.

Definition

CUCM supports ad hoc conferences (started by a user pressing Conference) and meet-me conferences (dial-in numbers). Resources include the software conference bridge on CUCM (G.711 audio only), IOS DSP-based hardware bridges supporting mixed codecs, and video bridges such as Cisco Meeting Server. Conference bridges are allocated through MRGs and MRGLs.

Example

Three users join an ad hoc conference hosted on the branch router's DSP conference bridge.

Exam tip

Software conference bridges on CUCM only mix G.711; mixed-codec conferences need DSP or video bridge resources.
