AutoOps+ (AT0-001). Set it up and run it.

This is not a sample sheet — it is the application, running. Pick your mode, your length, your domain, the same way you would inside the full title. Study mode marks each answer and tells you why the right one is right and why each wrong one is wrong; Simulation puts a clock on it and chooses each question from whatever you are weakest in. No account, no e-mail address, no card.

Domains, and how many questions each

  • Automation Coding Concepts155
  • System Configuration125
  • Continuous Integration120
  • Continuous Delivery100

A real exam experience

  • Timed simulation — 60 questions in 60 minutes, weighted to the blueprint, no feedback until the end.
  • 4 domain drills — work one weak area at a time.
  • Exhibits — real command output and topology diagrams to read, the way the exam asks them.
  • It adapts — miss a domain and the next questions lean that way; master one and it eases off.
  • Every answer explained — why the right one is right, and why each wrong one is wrong.

And what comes with it

  • Twelve months of access — and of updates. Blueprints change and questions get added; while your year is running you get every one of them at no extra cost.
  • A certified engineer on e-mail. Stuck on why an answer is what it is? thinqmaster@thinqtanklearning.com reaches somebody who holds the certification and works in the field — not a ticket queue.
  • The discussion groups. Post a question to other people sitting the same exam and get it talked through.
  • Not a subscription. You sit the exam once; you pay once, $149. Nothing renews and nothing has to be cancelled.
  • In one of our camps? It is already included in your tuition — you will find it in your classroom.

The five questions

1. An engineer is writing a script that must run against 200 servers and produce the same result whether it runs once or twenty times. Which property must the script have?

  • A. Idempotency
  • B. Recursion
  • C. Concurrency
  • D. Polymorphism

Correct answer: A. An idempotent operation produces the same end state no matter how many times it is applied. It is the property that makes automation safe to re-run after a partial failure, which is the normal case at scale.

Why the others are wrong. B: Recursion is a function calling itself; it says nothing about repeat safety. C: Concurrency is about running work in parallel, which makes repeat-safety harder, not guaranteed. D: Polymorphism is an object-oriented typing concept unrelated to run-state.

2. Which two characteristics describe an agentless configuration management model? (Choose two.)

  • A. It connects using an existing management protocol such as SSH or WinRM
  • B. It requires no persistent software to be installed on the managed host
  • C. Each managed host enforces policy on its own schedule without a control node
  • D. It removes the need to define desired state
  • E. It works without any credentials for the managed host

Correct answer: A. Agentless tools rely on a protocol already present on the host, such as SSH or WinRM, and are driven from a control node that initiates each run, so no persistent software is installed on the target.

Why the others are wrong. C: Continuous local enforcement on a timer is the behaviour of a resident agent, not an agentless run. D: Desired state still has to be authored regardless of how the run is delivered. E: Something must still authenticate to the host to inspect and change it.

3. A configuration file must carry nested structure, be readable by an engineer editing it by hand, and be parsed natively by most automation tooling. Which format is the most common choice?

  • A. YAML
  • B. CSV
  • C. INI
  • D. Fixed-width text

Correct answer: A. YAML expresses nesting through indentation, which keeps hand-edited files readable, and is the format most automation and orchestration tools consume directly.

Why the others are wrong. B: CSV is flat by design and cannot express nesting. C: INI supports only one level of sections and has no agreed nesting syntax. D: Fixed-width text has no structure at all beyond column position.

4. A team writes a configuration definition that states which packages, files, and services must exist on a web server, without listing the commands needed to get there. What is this definition called?

  • A. A desired state declaration
  • B. An imperative runbook
  • C. A provisioning template for new hardware
  • D. A change advisory record

Correct answer: A. A desired state definition describes the end result the system must reach. The configuration management tool compares current state to that definition and takes only the actions needed to close the gap.

Why the others are wrong. B: A runbook lists the ordered commands an operator runs; the scenario explicitly says no commands are listed. C: Provisioning templates create the machine itself; this definition describes software configuration on a machine that already exists. D: A change record documents approval and scheduling for a change and is not consumed by any tool to configure a host.

5. A build that succeeds on one long-lived build agent fails on another agent in the same pool, even though the commit is identical. Which environmental factor is the most likely cause?

  • A. Leftover state on the persistent agents has left the two machines with different installed tools and files
  • B. The source control system delivered a different commit to each agent
  • C. Unit tests are non-deterministic by design
  • D. The pipeline definition is stored beside the application code

Correct answer: A. Persistent agents accumulate state from previous builds - installed packages, cached files, changed configuration - so two agents in the same pool drift apart over time. That drift is the classic source of works-on-one-agent failures.

Why the others are wrong. B: Both agents check out the same commit hash, so the input is identical; the difference is on the machines. C: Nothing in the scenario points at the tests; the same commit passing on one machine and failing on another points at the machine. D: Storing the pipeline as code beside the app is good practice and is shared by both agents, so it cannot differ between them.

6. Which two data formats are commonly returned by a RESTful API and parsed directly by automation scripts? (Choose two.)

  • A. JSON
  • B. XML
  • C. YAML
  • D. Markdown
  • E. Plain-text log lines

Correct answer: A. JSON is the default response format for most modern REST APIs, and XML remains common in older and enterprise services. Both are structured and have parsers in every scripting language.

Why the others are wrong. C: YAML is widely used for configuration files but is rarely an API response format. D: Markdown is a document format for humans. E: Log lines have no guaranteed structure to parse against.

7. A configuration management run is executed against a host that already matches every item in the policy. The run completes and reports no changes. What term describes the state of that host?

  • A. Provisioned
  • B. Converged
  • C. Orchestrated
  • D. Idempotent

Correct answer: B. A host that already matches the declared policy has converged, so the tool makes no changes on that run. Reporting zero changes on an already compliant host is the expected outcome of a converged system.

Why the others are wrong. A: Provisioned means the machine has been created and made reachable, which says nothing about whether its configuration matches policy. C: Orchestration is coordinating steps across multiple systems, not the compliance status of one host. D: Idempotent describes a task or operation that is safe to repeat; it is a property of the code, not a status of the host.

8. An organisation wants every build to start from a known clean state so that no previous job can influence the next one. Which build environment model best achieves this?

  • A. Persistent agents that are re-imaged once a quarter
  • B. Ephemeral agents that are created for one job and destroyed afterwards
  • C. Persistent agents with a cleanup script that runs after each job
  • D. A single large shared agent with more CPU and memory

Correct answer: B. An ephemeral agent exists only for the life of one job, so nothing from a previous build can survive into the next. Clean state is guaranteed by construction rather than by cleanup discipline.

Why the others are wrong. A: A quarterly re-image still allows three months of drift and cross-job contamination between rebuilds. C: A cleanup script only removes what its author remembered to remove, so unknown state survives. D: Adding capacity to one shared machine increases contention and shared state rather than removing it.
