Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM)

Cisco's on-premises enterprise call control platform that registers endpoints and handles dial plan, features and media resources.

Definition

CUCM (Unified CM) is a software appliance deployed as a cluster of virtual servers that provides call processing, device registration, dial plan routing, call admission control, media resource management and integration with voicemail, presence and contact center. Endpoints register using SIP or SCCP, while gateways and other systems connect via SIP, H.323 or MGCP trunks. It is administered through a web interface and supports thousands of endpoints per cluster with redundancy across subscribers.

Example

A 10,000-phone enterprise runs a CUCM cluster with one publisher, four call-processing subscribers and two TFTP servers.

Exam tip

Know the CUCM call-routing chain: pattern matched in a partition reachable by the CSS, then route pattern, route list, route group and device.
