Translation Pattern (TP)

A CUCM pattern that manipulates calling or called digits and then re-routes the call using its own CSS.

Definition

Translation patterns match digits like route patterns but, instead of routing to a device, apply transformations and send the result back into digit analysis with a specified CSS. They are used for inbound DID mapping, normalizing user-dialed numbers to +E.164, blocking patterns and abbreviated dialing. Translation patterns can be chained, up to a loop-protection limit.

Example

Translation pattern 9.1[2-9]XX[2-9]XXXXXX with discard PreDot and prefix +1 globalizes user-dialed numbers.

Exam tip

Translation patterns use their own CSS for the second lookup, which is a frequent exam detail.
