Globalized Dial Plan

A dial plan design that normalizes all numbers to +E.164 for routing and then localizes them at the egress device.

Definition

In a globalized dial plan, user-dialed numbers are converted by translation patterns into +E.164, routed with a small set of +E.164 route patterns using Local Route Groups, and then localized with transformation patterns for each gateway or phone display. Incoming calling numbers are also globalized so call history can be redialed from any site. This scales well across many countries and sites.

Example

A user in Paris dials 0145678901; a translation pattern converts it to +33145678901 for routing.

Exam tip

Order of operations: normalize/globalize at ingress, route on +E.164, localize at egress.
