Shadow Location

A built-in CUCM location assigned to SIP intercluster trunks so Enhanced Locations CAC can be applied end to end between clusters.

Definition

When an intercluster trunk is placed in the Shadow location, CUCM passes location and bandwidth information in SIP headers so the far cluster can deduct bandwidth for the true originating location. This enables accurate CAC for calls that traverse multiple clusters. The older Phantom location served a similar purpose for legacy designs.

Example

A SIP trunk between Cluster A and Cluster B is placed in the Shadow location to support intercluster ELCAC.

Exam tip

Shadow location equals SIP ICT with ELCAC; Hub_None is the default for devices with no specific location.
