Locations-Based Call Admission Control

CUCM CAC that assigns devices to locations with bandwidth limits and rejects or reroutes calls when a link's budget is exhausted.

Definition

Each location has audio, video and immersive video bandwidth budgets for calls to other locations. When a new call would exceed the budget, CUCM blocks it or, with AAR, reroutes it over the PSTN. Built-in locations include Hub_None, Phantom (for legacy intercluster trunks) and Shadow (for SIP intercluster trunks with Enhanced Locations CAC).

Example

The Branch location allows 80 kbps of audio, so only one G.711 call or several G.729 calls can cross the WAN at once.

Exam tip

CAC prevents oversubscribing the LLQ on WAN links; QoS alone cannot stop too many calls degrading each other.
