Route Group (RG)

A CUCM collection of gateways or trunks with a distribution algorithm of top-down or circular.

Definition

Route groups contain the actual devices that calls egress through and define how calls are distributed among them. Top-down always tries the first device first, while circular rotates the starting device to balance load. Route groups are placed into route lists rather than being directly referenced by route patterns.

Example

RG-CUBE-HQ contains two CUBE SIP trunks with circular distribution.

Exam tip

Route patterns point to route lists or directly to a single gateway/trunk, never directly to a route group.
