Process Group

A logical grouping of project management processes: Initiating, Planning, Executing, Monitoring and Controlling, and Closing.

Definition

Process groups describe the activities performed across any phase and are not themselves life cycle phases. They interact and overlap, and Monitoring and Controlling runs throughout the project.

Example

Creating the charter is Initiating; producing the risk register is Planning.

Exam tip

Process groups are not phases; a phase can contain all five groups.
