Project Life Cycle

The series of phases a project passes through from its start to its completion.

Definition

Life cycles can be predictive, iterative, incremental, adaptive (agile), or hybrid. Phases are often separated by reviews or gates, and the chosen life cycle shapes planning, delivery cadence, and change handling.

Example

A construction project might use Feasibility, Design, Build, Test, Deploy, and Close phases.

Exam tip

Do not confuse the project life cycle (phases) with Process Groups, which repeat within each phase.
