Outbound Dial Peer Matching

The IOS process that selects the dial peer for the outgoing leg, using longest destination-pattern match, then preference, then random choice.

Definition

IOS compares the called number against destination-pattern statements and selects the most specific match. If multiple dial peers match equally, the lowest preference value wins, and ties are broken randomly by default. Dial-peer groups, destination dpg and e164-pattern-maps provide more deterministic control in modern CUBE designs.

Example

Two dial peers with destination-pattern 9T and preferences 1 and 2 provide primary and backup ITSP routes.

Exam tip

Lower preference number is preferred; longest match is checked before preference.
