Inbound Dial Peer Matching

The order IOS uses to choose a dial peer for an incoming call leg, ending with default dial peer 0 if nothing matches.

Definition

For SIP calls, IOS first checks incoming uri statements (such as via, request, to or from), then incoming called-number against DNIS, then answer-address against ANI, then destination-pattern against ANI. If no dial peer matches, dial peer 0 is used, which has default codec and DTMF settings and no translation profiles, often causing failed or degraded calls. Explicit inbound matching is a best practice.

Example

dial-peer voice 200 voip / incoming uri via ITSP-VIA matches all calls arriving from the carrier's IP address.

Exam tip

Dial peer 0 is a common root cause of codec or DTMF problems; show call active voice brief reveals which peer was used.
