Auto-Registration

A CUCM feature that automatically adds unknown phones to the database and assigns them DNs from a configured range.

Definition

Auto-registration speeds initial deployment but creates security risk because any phone connecting to the network can register. It assigns default device pool, CSS and DN from a range per CUCM node. Self-provisioning extends it by letting users associate an auto-registered phone with their own account through an IVR.

Example

A new phone auto-registers with DN 9001, and the user dials the self-provisioning IVR to claim it.

Exam tip

Auto-registration is typically disabled after deployment for security; it cannot be used in mixed-mode clusters.
