Significant Digits

A setting on inbound CUCM gateways and trunks that keeps only the rightmost N digits of the called number.

Definition

Significant digits simplify DID handling by stripping the carrier's leading digits, such as keeping the last four digits of a ten-digit DID to match internal extensions. It is applied before the inbound CSS lookup. More flexible alternatives are incoming called party prefixes and translation patterns.

Example

Significant digits set to 4 converts 4085552001 to 2001 for an incoming PSTN call.

Exam tip

Significant digits apply only to inbound calls on the gateway or trunk.
