Route Redistribution

Injecting routes learned from one routing source into another routing protocol.

Definition

Redistribution connects routing domains, such as importing static or EIGRP routes into OSPF. Each protocol needs a seed metric for redistributed routes, and mutual redistribution at multiple points can create loops or suboptimal paths. Route tags, route maps and distribute lists are used to control it. In Junos the equivalent is an export policy applied to the receiving protocol.

Example

redistribute eigrp 100 subnets route-map EIGRP-TO-OSPF under router ospf 1

Exam tip

Redistribution into RIP or classic EIGRP needs an explicit seed metric or routes are not advertised (except connected and static into EIGRP).
