Route Map

An ordered Cisco IOS policy construct of permit/deny sequences with match and set clauses, used for filtering, redistribution, PBR and BGP policy.

Definition

Route maps are evaluated top down by sequence number; the first sequence whose match conditions are all met is applied. Multiple match conditions in one sequence are a logical AND, while multiple values in one match statement are a logical OR. A route map ends with an implicit deny, so routes matching no sequence are filtered.

Example

route-map SET-LP permit 10 / match ip address prefix-list CUST / set local-preference 200

Exam tip

An empty permit sequence at the end is needed to allow everything else; the implicit deny is a common trap.
