Partition (PT)

A logical group of CUCM directory numbers and patterns that share reachability; callers reach it only if their CSS includes it.

Definition

Partitions act like locks on numbers and patterns, while calling search spaces act like key rings. Every DN, route pattern, translation pattern, hunt pilot and similar pattern resides in a partition, or in the null partition that every CSS can reach. Partitions are used for class of service, multitenancy, time-of-day routing and overlapping dial plans.

Example

Route pattern 9.1[2-9]XX[2-9]XXXXXX is placed in partition PT-LongDistance, reachable only by managers' CSS.

Exam tip

Patterns in the null (None) partition are reachable by every device, which is a common exam trap.
