Minimum Viable Product (MVP)

The version of a new product that allows a team to collect the maximum amount of validated learning with the least effort.

Definition

Defined by Eric Ries in Lean Startup, an MVP tests hypotheses; it is not simply a stripped-down release. Forms include concierge, Wizard of Oz, and landing-page MVPs. In SAFe, an MVP tests an epic hypothesis.

Example

A landing page with a sign-up form tests demand before any code is written.

Exam tip

MVP = learning vehicle; MMP/MMF = smallest set that delivers value to customers.
