Media Flow-Through

A CUBE mode in which RTP media is terminated and re-originated by CUBE, providing topology hiding and media interworking.

Definition

Flow-through is the default mode: endpoints on each side send media only to CUBE, which relays it. This hides internal addresses, enables NAT traversal, SRTP-RTP interworking, transcoding and recording. Media flow-around sends media directly between endpoints while CUBE handles only signaling, reducing CUBE load but exposing addresses.

Example

media flow-around on an internal dial peer lets two internal systems exchange RTP directly.

Exam tip

ITSP-facing CUBE designs use flow-through for security and topology hiding.
