lsblk

A Linux command that lists block devices in a tree, showing disks, partitions, LVM volumes and their mount points.

Definition

lsblk reads sysfs and shows device name, size, type and mount point; -f adds filesystem type and UUID. It is the go-to command after adding a new disk to verify the kernel sees it.

Example

lsblk -f shows that nvme1n1 is unpartitioned and unmounted after hot-adding a disk.

Exam tip

lsblk lists block devices; it does not show free space within filesystems (use df for that).
