Lead and Lag

Lead is the time a successor can be advanced relative to a predecessor; lag is the time it must be delayed.

Definition

A lead (negative lag) allows overlap, such as starting landscaping 2 weeks before a building is finished. A lag adds waiting time, such as 3 days for concrete to cure before framing.

Example

FS - 5 days (lead) vs. FS + 3 days (lag).

Exam tip

Leads and lags do not replace logic; a lag is not an activity and uses no resources.
