Laser Printer

A printer that uses a laser, photosensitive drum, toner, and heated fuser to produce prints.

Definition

Laser printers create an electrostatic image on a drum with a laser, attract toner to that image, transfer it to paper, and fuse it with heat and pressure. They are fast and economical for high-volume text printing. Key consumables include toner, drum (imaging unit), fuser, and transfer roller or belt.

Example

A department laser printer printing 50 pages per minute on a duplexing assembly.

Exam tip

Know the order of the laser imaging process and which part causes which defect.
