EIGRP Wide Metrics

64-bit EIGRP metrics used in named mode to differentiate high-speed links, with a RIB scaling factor.

Definition

Classic metrics cannot distinguish interfaces above 1 Gbps well. Wide metrics use picosecond-based throughput and latency components and add K6 for jitter and energy. Because the result can exceed 32-bit RIB limits, it is divided by the rib-scale (default 128) for installation.

Example

metric rib-scale 128 under address-family in named mode

Exam tip

Wide metrics are used by default in named mode; classic and named routers interoperate by scaling.
