Display Image Size for 2D Content in Audiovisual Systems (DISCAS)

The ANSI/AVIXA V202.01 standard for calculating display image size based on viewing distance and content type.

Definition

DISCAS determines minimum image height from the farthest viewer distance and whether viewers perform basic decision making (reading general content) or analytical decision making (reading fine detail such as spreadsheets). It also considers closest viewer distance and viewing angles. It replaces older rules of thumb such as the 4-6-8 rule.

Example

Using DISCAS, a 9 m farthest viewer for analytical content requires a much larger image than for presentation slides.

Exam tip

Know BDM versus ADM content and that DISCAS replaces the 4-6-8 rule.
