DDR4 SDRAM

Fourth-generation DDR memory using 288-pin DIMMs at 1.2 V with JEDEC speeds up to 3200 MT/s.

Definition

DDR4 introduced higher density and lower voltage than DDR3, with standard speeds of 2133 to 3200 MT/s and faster overclocked kits using XMP. Desktop DIMMs have 288 pins and SO-DIMMs have 260 pins. DDR4 and DDR5 share a pin count but use different notch positions.

Example

A pair of 16 GB DDR4-3200 DIMMs installed in dual-channel slots A2 and B2.

Exam tip

DDR4 and DDR5 DIMMs both have 288 pins, but they are keyed differently and not interchangeable.
