Cloud-Native

Approach to building applications that fully exploit cloud capabilities through microservices, managed services, automation and elasticity.

Definition

Cloud-native applications are designed for the cloud from the start, typically using loosely coupled services, containers or serverless functions, managed data services, declarative automation and observability. They scale horizontally and recover automatically from failure.

Example

An order system built from serverless functions, a managed queue and a NoSQL database that scale independently.

Exam tip

Refactoring to cloud-native delivers the most benefit but the highest migration effort compared with rehosting.
