Closest Match Routing

The CUCM rule that selects the pattern matching the fewest possible numbers among all patterns the caller's CSS can reach.

Definition

CUCM digit analysis considers every matching pattern in the partitions of the caller's CSS and chooses the most specific one, regardless of partition order. Partition order in the CSS is used only when two patterns are equally specific. This enables designs where a specific pattern overrides a generic one, such as a blocking pattern for premium numbers.

Example

Patterns 9.1900XXXXXXX (block) and 9.1[2-9]XXXXXXXXX both match 919005551234, and the more specific 1900 pattern wins.

Exam tip

Partition order matters only for ties; specificity always wins first.
