Cisco Unified Communications Manager Group (CM Group)

An ordered list of up to three CUCM nodes that tells devices which server to register to first and which to use for failover.

Definition

Each device gets its CM Group through its device pool. The phone registers to the first server and keeps a standby TCP connection to the second; if the primary fails it fails over, and it falls back when the primary returns. A typical design balances load by creating multiple CM Groups with different primary subscribers.

Example

CMG-A lists SUB1, SUB2 and is assigned to half the device pools, while CMG-B lists SUB2, SUB1.

Exam tip

A CM Group holds up to three servers; SRST is the final fallback beyond the group.
