Calling Party Normalization

Converting incoming caller ID numbers into globalized +E.164 format so they can be redialed from call history from any location.

Definition

Incoming PSTN caller IDs arrive in formats that depend on carrier and numbering type, such as national or subscriber. Normalization uses incoming calling party prefixes or calling party transformation CSSs on gateways and trunks to add country codes and the plus sign. Phones may then show a localized version using calling party transformations on the phone.

Example

A national number 2125551234 arriving on a US PRI is normalized to +12125551234.

Exam tip

Normalization happens inbound on the gateway or trunk; localization happens on the phone or egress device.
