Advanced Technology Extended (ATX)

The most common desktop motherboard and power supply form factor, measuring 12 x 9.6 inches.

Definition

ATX defines a 305 x 244 mm board with up to seven expansion slots, standard mounting holes, and the ATX power connector specification. ATX power supplies provide the 24-pin main connector and +12 V, +5 V, and +3.3 V rails. The ATX 3.x PSU spec adds support for high-power GPU connectors.

Example

A full tower case supports an ATX motherboard and an ATX 3.1 power supply.

Exam tip

ATX is the reference size; expect questions comparing it to microATX and Mini-ITX dimensions.
