24-Pin ATX Power Connector

The main power connector from the PSU to the motherboard, supplying 3.3 V, 5 V, and 12 V.

Definition

The 24-pin ATX connector (often 20+4) delivers primary power and includes the power-good and standby signals. Older boards used a 20-pin version, which is why the extra 4 pins detach. A loose 24-pin connection can cause no power or random shutdowns.

Example

Reseat the 24-pin cable until the latch clicks when a system will not power on.

Exam tip

Do not confuse the 20+4 pin motherboard connector with the 4+4 pin CPU (EPS) connector.
