2N Redundancy

A design with two fully independent systems, each able to carry the entire load, so one whole system can fail.

Definition

2N duplicates UPS, distribution and often utility feeds (A and B paths). 2N+1 adds a spare to each side. It underpins Tier IV fault tolerance but doubles infrastructure cost.

Example

Each rack receives an A feed and a B feed from separate UPS systems, each sized for the full load.

Exam tip

2N survives the loss of an entire power path; N+1 does not necessarily.
