Voice-Activated Switching (VAS)

A conference mode that shows the current active speaker full screen and switches as different participants speak.

Definition

VAS requires less processing than continuous presence because only one video stream is shown at a time. Switching can be distracting when people interrupt each other, so hysteresis timers prevent rapid flipping. It is still common as an option in modern meeting layouts.

Example

When the CFO starts speaking, every endpoint switches to her video after a short delay.

Exam tip

VAS shows only one site; continuous presence shows several.
