Virtual Environment (venv)

An isolated Python environment with its own interpreter link and installed packages, separate from the system Python.

Definition

venv prevents dependency conflicts between projects and keeps the system Python clean. Packages installed after activation stay inside the environment, and requirements.txt captures them.

Example

python3 -m venv .venv && source .venv/bin/activate && pip install -r requirements.txt

Exam tip

Use one venv per project; add .venv to .gitignore.
