Unsupervised Learning

Machine learning that finds structure, groupings or patterns in data that has no labels.

Definition

Unsupervised algorithms explore unlabeled data to discover clusters, associations or compact representations. Common tasks include clustering, dimensionality reduction, anomaly detection and association-rule mining. Because there is no ground truth, evaluation often relies on internal metrics or business validation.

Example

Grouping customers into segments by purchasing behavior with k-means is unsupervised learning.

Exam tip

Keywords like segment, group, or find hidden patterns without labels signal unsupervised learning.
