Telemetry Subscription Modes

The ways telemetry sessions are established and data is sent: dial-in vs dial-out, and periodic vs on-change.

Definition

In dial-in, the collector connects to the device and subscribes (dynamic subscription, e.g. gNMI). In dial-out, the device initiates the connection to the collector based on configured (static) subscriptions. Periodic sends at intervals; on-change sends only when a value changes.

Example

telemetry ietf subscription 101 with receiver ip address 10.0.0.5 57500 protocol grpc-tcp is a configured dial-out subscription.

Exam tip

Dial-out = configured on the device, device initiates; dial-in = dynamic, collector initiates.
