Software-Defined Perimeter (SDP)

Architecture that hides resources from the network and grants per-session access only after authentication.

Definition

SDP, developed by the Cloud Security Alliance, uses a controller to authenticate users and devices before any connection is allowed, creating a 'dark cloud' where services are invisible to unauthorized users. Single packet authorization is often used to open access. It is a foundation for ZTNA.

Example

Internal apps do not respond to port scans; only authenticated clients receive one-to-one encrypted tunnels.

Exam tip

SDP = authenticate first, then connect; services are invisible otherwise.
