Screen Lock

A device setting that requires authentication to unlock after inactivity or on demand.

Definition

Screen locks use PINs, passwords, patterns, or biometrics, and auto-lock timeouts. Failed attempt limits can trigger delays or a device wipe. Workstations should be locked when unattended (Win+L on Windows, Ctrl+Cmd+Q on macOS).

Example

Press Win+L before stepping away from a workstation.

Exam tip

Swipe patterns are weak; PINs, passwords, and biometrics are stronger screen lock methods.
