Resource Pooling

NIST cloud characteristic: provider resources are pooled to serve multiple consumers in a multi-tenant model with location independence.

Definition

In resource pooling, the provider's physical and virtual resources are dynamically assigned and reassigned to multiple consumers according to demand. Customers generally have no control over the exact location of resources but may specify location at a higher level such as country, region or data center.

Example

Hundreds of customers share the same physical hosts in a region, with the hypervisor isolating each tenant's virtual machines.

Exam tip

Resource pooling is the characteristic most closely tied to multitenancy and to concerns about data location and tenant isolation.
