RAID 10

A nested level that stripes data across mirrored pairs, combining RAID 1 redundancy with RAID 0 performance.

Definition

RAID 10 requires an even number of at least four drives and provides 50 percent usable capacity. It survives one failure per mirror pair and rebuilds quickly because only a mirror copy is needed. Its write penalty is two.

Example

Database transaction logs are placed on RAID 10 for high write performance.

Exam tip

RAID 10 can survive multiple failures only if they are in different mirror pairs.
