Public Cloud

Deployment model where infrastructure is owned by a provider and shared among the general public on a pay-per-use basis.

Definition

A public cloud is provisioned for open use by the general public and exists on the premises of the cloud provider. It offers massive scale, no upfront capital cost and rapid provisioning, with tenants logically isolated on shared infrastructure.

Example

AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure are public clouds.

Exam tip

Public cloud shifts spending from CapEx to OpEx; expect it to be the answer when a scenario emphasizes no upfront investment.
