Hybrid Cloud

Deployment model combining two or more distinct clouds, typically private and public, connected to allow data and app portability.

Definition

A hybrid cloud is a composition of distinct cloud infrastructures that remain unique entities but are bound together by technology that enables data and application portability. Organizations use it to keep sensitive workloads on premises, burst to public cloud, or migrate gradually.

Example

A hospital keeps patient records on premises while running analytics in Azure, connected by ExpressRoute.

Exam tip

Hybrid means on-premises/private plus public; using two public providers is multicloud, not hybrid.
