Organic Light-Emitting Diode (OLED)

A display technology where each pixel emits its own light, giving perfect blacks and high contrast.

Definition

OLED pixels turn off completely for true black, offering high contrast and fast response without a backlight. They are used in phones, laptops, and monitors. Static elements displayed for long periods can cause burn-in.

Example

An iPhone and many premium laptops use OLED displays.

Exam tip

OLED needs no backlight; the risk is burn-in, not backlight failure.
