Node

A worker machine, virtual or physical, in a Kubernetes cluster that runs pods.

Definition

Each node runs kubelet, kube-proxy, and a container runtime. Nodes can be cordoned (unschedulable) and drained (pods evicted) for maintenance.

Example

kubectl drain node1 --ignore-daemonsets before an OS upgrade, then kubectl uncordon node1.

Exam tip

Drain before maintenance, uncordon after; drain needs --ignore-daemonsets when DaemonSets exist.
