Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

Salesforce requirement for users to verify identity with a second factor, such as Salesforce Authenticator or a security key, at login.

Definition

Salesforce contractually requires MFA for all direct UI logins and has enforced it platform-wide. SSO users can satisfy it through their identity provider. Verification methods include Salesforce Authenticator, TOTP apps, security keys and built-in authenticators.

Exam tip

MFA is required for UI logins; if users log in via SSO, MFA is enforced at the identity provider.
