Two-Step Verification vs MFA: What's the Difference?

Two-step verification means two sequential checks, which may both be the same factor type, such as a password plus a security question. MFA requires two or more different factor categories: something you know, have, are, or contextual factors like somewhere you are.

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

Exam tip

Exams love password plus security question: that is single-factor, multi-step. Count the factor categories, not the number of prompts.
