Mirroring

Writing identical copies of data to two or more drives or systems for redundancy.

Definition

Mirroring provides fast recovery and good read performance at a capacity cost. It appears in RAID 1 and RAID 10 and, at larger scale, in synchronous storage replication between arrays.

Example

A two-way mirror in Storage Spaces keeps two copies of every block.

Exam tip

Mirroring uses 50 percent of raw capacity for a two-way mirror.
