Meeting Hijacking

Unauthorized entry into an online meeting to disrupt, eavesdrop or share offensive content, also called meeting bombing.

Definition

Attackers use leaked or guessed meeting links, IDs and passwords. Mitigations include requiring authentication, lobbies, locking meetings once started, unique meeting IDs instead of reused personal rooms, restricting screen sharing to hosts and using meeting passwords. Hosts should be able to remove and block participants.

Example

Uninvited users join a public webinar link and share inappropriate content until the host restricts sharing.

Exam tip

Lobby, authentication, locking and presenter controls are the primary defenses.
