End-to-End Encryption for Meetings (E2EE)

Meeting encryption in which media keys are known only to participants' endpoints, not to the meeting service provider.

Definition

Standard cloud meetings encrypt media in transit but the service can access it for features such as recording and transcription. End-to-end encryption, such as Webex Zero-Trust Security (built on the Messaging Layer Security standard) and Teams E2EE for calls and meetings, keeps keys at the endpoints. E2EE typically disables cloud recording, transcription, AI features and some join methods such as PSTN or third-party devices.

Example

A legal team enables E2EE for a merger meeting, accepting that cloud recording is unavailable.

Exam tip

E2EE trades features for confidentiality; know which features it disables.
